Security Camera Installation in Hamilton, ON

In Hamilton the risk sits in different places: the back gate and laneway below the escarpment, the driveway and garage on the Mountain, and the docks, yards and fence lines along the bayfront. JR Security Solutions designs and installs security cameras in Hamilton for each of those, starting with a free on-site assessment, so the footage you get is footage you can use.

Cameras for Lower-City Homes and Laneways

Durand, Kirkendall, Strathcona and Crown Point are full of brick homes built close together, many with a narrow passage down one side and a rear laneway behind the yard. Trouble rarely starts at the front door here. It tends to come from the back, where a gate, a detached garage or a shed sits on a lane that nobody is watching after dark.

Rear laneways and detached garages

We usually fix a camera to the rear wall or the garage and point it across your gate and the stretch of lane right behind it, with a lens chosen to pick out a face or a bike at that distance. If the garage has no network cable, we can trench or run cable along the fence where practical, or use a wireless link from the house.

Side passages and back doors

A gap between two brick houses can be barely a metre wide. One camera set lower on the wall, looking down the passage, catches anyone coming through at face height. Cable goes through the basement rim joist or an existing opening where possible, so there’s very little wire on the brick.

Converted houses with more than one unit

Many older Hamilton houses have been split into a main floor, an upstairs unit and a basement apartment. For owners and landlords, we cover the shared entrances, the side path, the parking pad and the bins, never the inside of a unit or a tenant’s private outdoor space. Tell your tenants where the cameras are and what they record, and post a notice at shared doors. Not sure the lane can be seen from your back wall? We’ll check it at the free on-site assessment. Cameras for Homes on the Mountain and in the Suburbs

Up the escarpment and out in Ancaster, Dundas, Stoney Creek, Waterdown and Binbrook, lots are wider and the questions change. Who pulled into the driveway at 3am? Was the parcel left at the door or taken from it? Is the back gate shut?

  • Driveway and garage: one camera placed to read a vehicle and a face as they approach, rather than a wide view of the whole street
  • Front door and parcels: a video doorbell, or a camera above the door aimed down at the step
  • Backyard and walkouts: a wide camera with motion zones drawn along your fence, so the neighbour’s yard and the ravine or park behind you don’t set off alerts all night

Storefront Cameras on James Street North, Locke Street and Ottawa Street

Older Hamilton main streets mix narrow shopfronts, upstairs apartments and back doors onto shared lanes. A storefront camera plan normally covers:
  • The front door, at a height that captures faces, not hats
  • The counter and till, so you can see hands, cash and products clearly
  • Stockroom and rear door, where after-hours break-ins and staff-door problems often begin
  • The rear lane and deliveries, where the building allows it
Shared buildings need care: we keep cameras off upstairs tenants’ doors and windows, and post signage telling customers that video recording is in use.

Industrial Yards, Docks and Business Parks

For sites in the Bayfront Industrial Area, the Stoney Creek Business Park, the Flamborough Business Park and the Airport Employment Growth District, cameras have to work across loading docks, overhead doors, open yards and long fence lines, often at night.

Docks, yards and fence lines

We place cameras where trucks back in, where materials or equipment are stored, and along the perimeter at the spots someone would actually climb over. Night vision and lens choice matter more on a yard than anywhere else, so we check each view after dark where we can.

Licence plate and facial recognition cameras

Licence plate recognition cameras at a gate can log every vehicle that enters and leaves the yard. Facial recognition cameras can confirm who comes through a higher-security door. Because plates and faces count as personal information, we suggest these cameras only where a real security need justifies them. Post signs at entrances explaining that video and plate or face data are collected, set a retention period, and limit who can view or export footage.

Sites without internet

Some yards, storage lots and site trailers have no wired internet. We can set up cameras that record on site and connect over a cellular link, so you still get alerts and remote viewing.

How We Plan Your Hamilton Camera Coverage

  1. Free on-site assessment. We walk the house, the lane, the shop or the yard with you and agree on what each camera has to show: a face, a plate, or an overview of an area.
  2. Identification or overview, camera by camera. A camera meant to identify someone sits closer and lower with a narrower view. An overview camera sits higher and shows the whole scene. Most good layouts use both.
  3. Night-time check. We look at street lights, porch lights and glare, then pick cameras and angles that keep faces and plates readable after dark.
  4. Privacy toward neighbours. We aim cameras at your own property and use privacy masking to block out neighbouring windows and yards.
  5. Recording and network. Footage records to a network video recorder (NVR) on site, with cloud options where they help. We run, label and set up the cabling and network gear. See networking services.
  6. Installation and handover. Our own technicians install and test every camera, then load the app on your phone and walk you through pulling up and exporting a recording.

Our Fergus office is about an hour from Hamilton, so we confirm every camera position, cable route and mount at the assessment, so install day is one complete visit and not a series of return trips.

Cameras Plus 24/7 Monitored Alarm Systems

Since September 1, 2019, Hamilton Police have required alarm signals to be verified before officers are dispatched, for example by video or audio, an on-scene witness, or at least two separate sensors tripping in a suspicious sequence. Panic and hold-up alarms are the exception. Cameras that show what set off the alarm give the monitoring station a clear way to confirm a real break-in. Read the Hamilton Police verified alarm response program, and see our 24/7 monitored alarm systems in Hamilton.

Cameras also work with access control, so each door entry has a matching clip, and with video intercoms, so you can see who’s at the door before you let them in.

Hamilton Security Camera FAQs

Yes. Most lower-city homes need one camera on the rear wall or garage that watches the gate and a short stretch of lane. If the garage has no cable, we’ll run it from the house or use a wireless link, and confirm the best option at the assessment.

Usually, but check with the City of Hamilton’s heritage staff before any exterior work. We’ll plan small cameras, mounts on wood trim or mortar joints instead of the brick face, and cable through the inside wherever possible, then adjust the plan to whatever the City asks for.

On shared areas: entrances, the side path, parking and the bin area. Never inside a unit or aimed into a tenant’s windows or private yard. Let tenants know where the cameras are and what they record, and post a notice at the shared doors.

Yes. You can save and export clips from the app or the recorder, with the date and time attached. We’ll show you how at handover, so you’re not working it out the morning after a break-in.

No. Hamilton is part of our service area, so there’s no extra travel or mileage charge. Travel is built into your written estimate.
Your installation comes with our 1 Year Labour Warranty On All Services. For the cameras and recorder themselves, we offer 1 Year To Lifetime Warranties On Products; the term depends on the specific product, and your estimate lists it.
