Video Intercoms for Galt, Preston, Hespeler and the 401 Corridor

Cambridge is three historic downtowns, the neighbourhoods that grew between them, and one of Waterloo Region’s main manufacturing and logistics areas. Its entrances are just as mixed: a heavy wooden street door between two shops on Main Street in Galt, a steel shipping door in the Cambridge Business Park, a pedestrian gate at a fenced yard off Townline Road, a row of mailboxes in a townhouse complex.

Each of those needs a different door station, a different lock and a different cable route. JR Security Solutions installs Akuvox video intercoms across Cambridge, planned on site around the building you actually have, so the person inside can see and speak with a visitor before opening up.

Akuvox smart doorbell mounted on a red brick wall next to a leaded glass window. The doorbell has a black top section with camera and wifi symbol, and a silver bottom section with a circular button.

Homes and Apartments From Galt to Hespeler

Water Street and Main Street in Galt, King Street in Preston and Queen Street in Hespeler Village all have apartments above storefronts, often reached by a shared door beside the shop. Many still have an audio-only buzzer, or none at all. A video door station with a button for each apartment lets residents see who’s downstairs and buzz them in from an indoor screen or their phone.
For property managers, an Akuvox system is run from a web portal: add a resident when a unit sells or a lease starts, remove them when they leave, and check the door release log with photos when there’s a question about who came in. That’s a lot simpler than reprogramming a panel at the door.
Older homes near the Grand and Speed rivers in Galt and Preston often have deep porches and side doors; newer homes in Hespeler, Blair, Fiddlesticks and Southwood usually have a front door and a side or mudroom entry. Either way, a video door station lets you answer from the house or, if you commute along the 401, from work.
An outdoor intercom system stands at the entrance to a property, featuring a gray metal housing and a black screen, against a backdrop of lush green foliage and a stone pillar.

Plants, Warehouses, Plazas and Older Commercial Buildings

Shipping and receiving doors

In the Cambridge Business Park, the Boxwood area and along Eagle Street and Franklin Boulevard, couriers and carriers often turn up at a side or shipping door while everyone is busy on the floor. A door station there can ring the shipping office and a supervisor’s phone at once, so someone can see the visitor, talk to them and release the door without walking across the building.

Yard gates

At a fenced yard, a weatherproof door station on a post at the pedestrian gate lets the office see and speak with whoever is outside. We coordinate the connection to the gate lock or operator with your gate supplier.

Plazas along Hespeler Road

Plaza units usually have a customer door out front and a steel receiving door at the back. A video intercom on the back door means staff know who’s knocking before they open it, which matters when someone is closing up alone.

Older brick and stone commercial buildings

Thick masonry walls are hard on Wi-Fi, so in Cambridge’s older commercial buildings we usually run a wired, powered network cable to the door station. We look for routes through basements, ceilings and existing openings to keep wiring out of sight. If your building has heritage designation, check with the City of Cambridge before changing the façade.

Intercom Features, Explained for Cambridge Sites

  • HD camera at every entrance. See faces, uniforms and parcels clearly on the call before anything opens.
  • App or desk screen. Calls ring the Akuvox SmartPlus app on staff or residents’ phones, an indoor monitor in the office or suite, or both.
  • Remote door and gate release. Unlock an electric strike, maglock or gate lock during the call. The system keeps a time-stamped photo of each release, which helps when you’re matching a delivery to a shipping record.
  • Access control included. Many Akuvox door stations double as a PIN, card or fob reader, and they can sit alongside a larger access control system in Cambridge for shifts and contractors.
  • Cameras and alarms together. Link a Uniview dock or gate camera so you can switch to its view during a call, and plan the intercom with the security cameras in Cambridge and Ajax 24/7 monitored alarm systems in Cambridge we install, so one team supports all of it.

Yes. We use a wired connection rather than Wi-Fi in heavy masonry buildings, and we plan the cable route through basements, ceilings or existing openings to keep it discreet.

Yes. The property manager adds and removes residents in a web portal, and each resident answers in the app or on an indoor screen. You don’t need us on site for routine changes.

Usually, yes. We look at the existing gate lock or operator during the walk-through and coordinate the connection with your gate supplier, so the office can open the gate after speaking with the visitor.

Often. We start by checking what’s already there. Existing cable paths can sometimes be reused, and where they can’t, we look for routes that avoid cutting into finished walls.

No. We come to Cambridge regularly, and travel is already built into your quote. There’s no separate mileage line.
